The first step for anyone supporting the development of support workers, whether that is as a line manager, clinical supervisor, colleague or practice educator, is to familiarise yourself with the role your support worker is doing and the AHP Support Worker Competency, Education and Career Development Framework, the Apprenticeship offers available to Support workers and also to get familiar with your own organisation’s Learning and Development offer for support workers.

Next is to recognise that the role is broad and varied, there will be formal and informal elements to understand and complete and a wonderful member of staff to help develop and fulfil their potential.
