Operating Department Practitioner videos
These educational videos aim to help people to understand more about working in an operating theatre environment.
They will be particularly useful to people who are thinking about a career as an Operating Theatre Practitioner (ODP).

Operating theatre 360˚ virtual tour
The Operating theatre 360˚ virtual tour provides a virtual walk-through of a typical theatre department with information ‘hot spots’ detailing commonly used equipment. This interactive resource is intended to be used to show students what they see in a typical operating theatre and facilities.
This may be beneficial for a wide range of users who are curious about working in an operating theatre environment. The tour can be accessed using a virtual reality headset or other PC/laptop and a risk assessment should be completed prior to use.
The Operating Theatre Practitioner (ODP) videos are for learners during their first practice placement within structured classroom discussions. They can be viewed using a virtual reality headset or on screen and a risk assessment must be completed for all participants.
The first three videos have two parts to show different outcomes based on how the learner acted or how assertive they were. Part 1 shows a negative outcome and part 2 shows a positive outcome.
The scenarios depicted in the videos are fictious and characters are played by NHS colleagues who volunteered to be involved.
Sophie’s first day on placement
These videos shows Sophie arriving at the operating theatre department on her first day.
The videos illustrate the importance of dressing appropriately for theatre and introducing themselves to colleagues.
