Operating theatre videos
These educational videos aim to help people to understand more about working in an operating theatre environment.
They will be particularly useful to people who are thinking about a career as an Operating Theatre Practitioner.

These videos are for learners during their first practice placement within structured classroom discussions. They can be viewed using a virtual reality headset or on screen and a risk assessment must be completed for all participants.
The first three videos have two parts to show different outcomes based on how the learner acted or how assertive they were. Part 1 shows a negative outcome and part 2 shows a positive outcome.
The scenarios depicted in the videos are fictious and characters are played by NHS colleagues who volunteered to be involved.
First day at work
These videos shows Sophie arriving at the operating theatre department on her first day.
Supervisor feedback
These two videos show Sophie seeking feedback from their supervisor and getting them to complete the necessary documentation.
Not according to plan
This video illustrates a simulated real-time surgical procedure. It is to give learners the experience of being immersed in a pressurised situation where the procedure is not going according to plan.
The video is aimed at a learner who wishes to prepare for what it could be like working in a real operating theatre. It is not intended to be used as a career’s promotion film but as part of an education package that is structured and has wrap around discussion and support alongside it.
Operating theatre tour
The Operating theatre tour provides a virtual walk-through of a typical theatre department with information ‘hot spots’ detailing commonly used equipment. This interactive resource is intended to be used to show students what they see in a typical operating theatre and facilities.
This may be beneficial for a wide range of users who are curious about working in an operating theatre environment. The tour can be accessed using a virtual reality headset or other PC/laptop and a risk assessment should be completed prior to use.
